Alert and Air Scent Training Seminar

A new tool for Search and Rescue was introduced to the Bay Area in June 2002 when trainer Terry Nowacki arrived from Minnesota to conduct an Equine Air Scenting seminar. The participants were also taught about alerting, in which horses are trained to sight and sound search and where mounted SAR members learn to read horses as they react to the presence of people or clothing. Two-hour classroom presentions were held to explain air scenting concepts and the training process. The photos below are from the testing and demonstration portion of the seminar.
