Mounted Police Basic School
The POST certified course was held by the Carson City Sheriff Department at the Carson City Fairgrounds just off hwy 395 south and hwy 50 west. Instructors Tom Casey, Joe Bruno, and Vinnie Pirozzi introduced 31 students to mounted police basics including tack inspection, ground manners, formation riding, sensory training, and mounted police arrest techniques. Ten of the students were from the San Mateo County MSAR. The remaining students were mounted officers from Douglas County, Reno and Carson City. All of the students passed the course sucessfully.
The 5-day course was highlighted by a 5-mile trot through a portion of Lahontan State Park, and a final ride through the streets of Carson City. Entertainment included an evening at a local sports bar, Bully's, and an outstanding barbeque grilled up by instructor Joe Bruno. Additional instruction was provided by guests Dr. Mason, DVM, and professional trainer Richard Winters.
